Anime Vanguards is an anime tower defence game where you summon units with Gems, place them with Yen earned in battle, and hold the path against waves of enemies across story worlds and endless modes. It looks simple for the first hour, then traits, evolutions and a long rarity ladder make where you spend your resources matter a lot. This guide covers the loop in plain order — what to do first, when to summon, and how to build a team that lasts. For free Gems, Trait Rerolls and materials, see our Anime Vanguards codes page.

How Anime Vanguards works

Each stage sends waves of enemies along a set path towards your base. You place units beside the path using Yen, the money earned inside a match, and upgrade them as enemies get faster, tougher and start arriving with shields. If too many get through, the stage ends — so placement matters as much as power. Units on bends and choke points, where they hit enemies for the longest stretch of path, outperform the same units in a straight line.

Outside a match, progression happens in the lobby: summon units with Gems, level the ones you use, roll traits onto them, and eventually evolve them. Rarities run from Rare, Epic and Legendary up through Mythic, then the much rarer Secret, Exclusive and Vanguard units. Every mode feeds that loop: earn, summon and improve, push harder content.

Getting started — your first sessions

Step 1

Pick your starter unit and learn the basics in Story mode. It carries the opening stages but will be replaced by your first good summons, so do not pour rare materials into it.

Step 2

Redeem every working code straight away, then do your first summons on the Special Banner. Codes are one of the biggest early sources of Gems and Trait Rerolls, and they expire.

Step 3

Push Story mode on Planet Namak and through the next worlds. Story pays Gold and Gems and unlocks the rest of the game — clearing a stage opens its Infinite version, and the early worlds open Raids.

Step 4

Put a farm unit in every team. Sprintwagon generates Yen each wave instead of fighting, and that income lets you upgrade your damage units early enough to matter.

Step 5

Level the small core team you actually field — a carry, a support and your farm unit — rather than spreading food and Gold across every unit you own.

Progressing fast — story, gems, summoning and traits

Story mode is your engine early on: first clears pay the best Gems and Gold, and Nightmare versions are a step up once ready. Infinite mode, unlocked per stage, is for longer farming — endless waves for Gems, experience and materials. Raids, Legend Stages and Challenges pay the specialist items, such as Essence Stones, that Story does not hand out in quantity.

Summoning costs 50 Gems a pull, and the top odds are long: Mythic units are rare, Secret and Vanguard units rarer still, and Secret pulls only open up at level 10. The saving grace is pity — a Legendary is guaranteed within 50 summons and a Mythic within 400, shared across the main banners. So build a working roster early, then save Gems towards pity or a banner you actually want.

Traits are rolled at the Mandra NPC using Trait Rerolls, and can transform a unit — boosting damage, attack speed or range, or Yen income. Monarch is the headline trait, with a very large damage boost balanced by limiting that unit to one placement; Ethereal suits units you place several copies of, Blitz favours fast attackers and Fortune suits your farm unit. Spend rerolls only on Mythic-or-better keepers, and never reroll away a good trait chasing a perfect one.

Best units and team roles

Rarity is not the whole story — a balanced team beats a row of expensive attackers with no Yen to upgrade them. These units are among the strongest in their job in the current game:

UnitRoleWhy it matters
Super VogitoDPSAmong the strongest overall damage dealers, and a centrepiece of top Dragon Sphere teams.
Song Jinwu and IgrosDPSA Vanguard-rarity powerhouse whose shadow-style summons keep pressure on a lane.
Alocard (Vampire King)DPS / damage over timeAlocard's evolved form. His attacks inflict Bleed, hurting tough enemies between hits.
Gujo (Infinity)Crowd controlValued for controlling groups and buying your damage units time, not raw damage alone.
Haruka RinSupportHer passive raises nearby units' damage as waves pass — one buffer can add more than a sixth attacker.
SprintwagonFarm / economyThe default farm unit: cheap, quick to pay for itself, and why your carries get upgraded on time. Takaroda suits very long modes.
Igros (Elite Knight)DPSIgros's evolved form, and a strong, more reachable step up for mid-game players.

A sensible beginner template: one farm unit, two damage carries, one support, one crowd-control unit, and your best remaining unit. Place Sprintwagon first and set area-damage units on bends.

Evolution, explained simply

Some units — mainly Mythic, Exclusive and Secret rarities — can evolve at the Evolve area in the lobby into a stronger form with better stats and often an improved passive. Each needs its own specific material, Essence Stones (Green are the base; coloured and Rainbow stones come largely from Challenges, or are crafted from them), and a Gold fee. Song Jinwu towards Monarch, Alocard into Vampire King and Igros into Elite Knight are classic early targets — evolve one carry at a time.

6 tips to progress faster

1. Farm first, every run. Place Sprintwagon on the opening wave and upgrade it before chasing damage. Teams that skip it run out of Yen when the hard waves arrive.

2. Save Gems with pity in mind. Bank Gems for a banner you want and let the pity guarantees work for you, instead of scattering single hopeful pulls.

3. Hoard Trait Rerolls for keepers. Rerolls feel common early and scarce later — spend them only on Mythic-or-better carries.

4. Place for path coverage, not looks. Bends, loops and choke points give units the longest time on target — covering a bend can outperform an upgrade.

5. Do the boring daily claims. Daily rewards, quests and milestones are a steady drip of Gems, rerolls and Essence Stones.

6. Play modes in order. Story first, then Infinite for farming, then Raids, Legend Stages and Challenges for evolution materials. Clearing the right mode well pays better than struggling in the hardest one.

Anime Vanguards — FAQ

How do I get more Gems in Anime Vanguards?

Push Story mode for first-clear rewards, farm Infinite mode on stages you have cleared, and claim daily rewards, quests, challenges and level milestones every session. Codes are the fastest one-off boost — redeem them as soon as they drop, because they expire and often include Trait Rerolls as well as Gems.

When should I summon, and how does pity work?

A summon costs 50 Gems. Build a basic working team early, then save towards pity or a banner with a unit you want: a Legendary is guaranteed within 50 summons and a Mythic within 400, and the counter is shared across the main banners. Secret units only become available once you reach level 10.

What are traits, and which units should I reroll?

Traits are permanent modifiers rolled at the Mandra NPC with Trait Rerolls — they can raise damage, attack speed or range, or boost Yen income. Monarch gives a very large damage boost but limits the unit to one placement, while Ethereal suits units you place multiple copies of. Save your rerolls for Mythic-or-better units you plan to keep long-term.

How does evolution work in Anime Vanguards?

Take an eligible unit — mostly Mythic, Exclusive and Secret rarities — to the Evolve area in the lobby with its specific material, the required Essence Stones and a Gold fee. Essence Stones come mainly from Challenges, and rarer stones can be crafted from Green ones. Evolved forms, such as Alocard (Vampire King) or Igros (Elite Knight), gain stronger stats and improved passives.
