Murder Mystery 2 looks simple — twelve players, one knife, one gun — until you realise the hardest part is trust: anyone standing next to you could be the Murderer, and as Sheriff a single panicked shot can cost you the round. This guide fixes the mistakes beginners make in their first rounds: you will learn how each role actually wins, how to read a map for clues, how coins and weapon rarities work, and how to trade safely once you unlock it. If a code is live, grab the free reward first from our Murder Mystery 2 codes page.

Every round drops up to 12 players onto one map and secretly deals out three roles: one Murderer, one Sheriff, and everyone else as Innocents. No one can see anyone else's role, and that one secret drives everything: the player collecting coins beside you might be deciding where to strike first.
The Murderer carries a knife and has to eliminate every other player before the round timer runs out, up close or by throwing the knife — but every kill risks a witness who can point the Sheriff straight at them. The Sheriff is the only player who starts with a gun, and the only one who can stop the Murderer directly — one clean shot ends the round. The catch: shoot an Innocent by mistake and you die too, your gun dropping to the floor for anyone.
Innocents start with no weapon at all. Their job is to survive, gather coins, and work out who the Murderer is from behaviour — who follows the same player, who avoids the group, who just walked away from a body. If an Innocent picks up the fallen Sheriff's gun and shoots the Murderer, they win the round as the Hero. Between rounds, players vote for the next map from three choices — House 2, Mansion 2 and the Police Station are favourites.
Redeem codes before you play. Murder Mystery 2 codes are rare, and when one is active it usually hands out a free weapon. Open your Inventory (the chest icon on the left of the screen), type the code into the Enter Code box in the bottom right, and press Redeem — codes are case-sensitive and work once per account.
Use Innocent rounds to learn the maps. Most of your early rounds will be as an Innocent — treat them as free training: learn room layouts, hiding spots, dead ends with one exit, and where coins spawn. Map knowledge keeps you alive in every role later.
Fill your coin bag every round. Coins spawn all over the map — up to 40 per round (50 with the Elite gamepass) — so a full loop is steady progress even in a round you lose. Coins buy weapon boxes in the Shop, so treat every round as a coin run.
Practise Sheriff discipline early. Keep your gun hidden and never fire on a hunch: a wrong shot kills you and hands the gun to whoever is nearest. Wait for proof — the knife, or a kill — then shoot.
Push to level 10 to unlock trading. You earn XP for surviving rounds, collecting coins and winning. Everything before level 10 is learning; everything after it is collecting.
Coins buy weapon boxes in the Shop, awarding knife and gun skins across the rarity ladder: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary and Godly, with Ancient weapons from past events and mostly-untradeable Unique trophies above it, and Chroma weapons as rainbow versions of Godlys. Skins change nothing about performance — a Common knife kills as fast as a Godly one — but rarity and demand decide what an item is worth to other players.
That is why trading is the endgame once it unlocks at level 10. Two habits keep beginners safe: check MM2Values or Supreme Values before accepting anything at Legendary or above, because rarity alone is not a price; and never trade outside the trade window itself — anyone asking you to hand over an item first is running a scam. Start small and work up slowly.
The same three-way standoff, side by side:
| Role | What you carry | How you win | The big risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Murderer (1 per round) | A knife you can swing or throw | Eliminate every other player before the timer ends | Being seen — one witness can point the Sheriff straight at you |
| Sheriff (1 per round) | The only gun in the round | Shoot the Murderer | A wrong shot at an Innocent kills you too, and your gun drops |
| Innocent (everyone else) | Nothing, until the gun drops | Survive to the end — or pick up the gun and win as the Hero | Wandering off alone, straight into the Murderer's path |
1. Stay near other players as Innocent. The Murderer hunts stragglers, and a kill in front of witnesses usually ends their round.
2. Watch habits, not outfits. The tells are behavioural: following one player room to room, hovering near doorways, never collecting coins, leaving a room just as a body is found.
3. As Murderer, blend in before you strike. Collect coins, walk normal routes, act bored early on — obvious early kills tell the Sheriff where to aim.
4. Listen as much as you look. Footsteps and the knife are audible nearby, and a corridor that suddenly goes quiet behind you is information — move.
5. Don't die for the last few coins. Your bag caps at 40 coins a round and survival earns XP too — a safe 35 beats a greedy death at 38.
6. If a trade feels too good, it is. Check values, keep everything inside the trade window, and never rush because the other player urges you to lock in. Scammers manufacture urgency; fair traders don't.

Open your Inventory with the chest icon on the left of the screen, type the code into the Enter Code box in the bottom right of the window, and press Redeem. Codes are case-sensitive and can only be redeemed once per account. Murder Mystery 2 codes are rare, so check our codes page for the current status before hunting elsewhere.
A Hero is an Innocent who picks up the Sheriff's gun after the Sheriff dies and uses it to shoot the Murderer. Grabbing the gun does not make you the Sheriff — but if your shot lands, you win the round with the Hero title. Be careful: the Murderer often watches the dropped gun, waiting for someone to run for it.
Trading unlocks at level 10. You earn XP every round for surviving, collecting coins and winning, so steady play gets you there quickly. Once trading opens, use the in-game trade window only, and check a community value list before swapping anything Legendary or rarer.
Coins are collected during rounds — up to 40 per round, or 50 with the Elite gamepass — and spent on weapon boxes in the Shop, which award knife and gun skins from Common up to Godly rarity. The skins are cosmetic, but rarer ones carry real value in trading once you reach level 10.
