Grow a Garden's Halloween event is down to its final two days. The Ghoul Garden event, which began on 17 October, wraps up on Saturday 7 November, and its third and final part — the biggest of the three — only arrived on 31 October, so players have had less than a week with the best rewards in the whole event. If you want the Mothman pet, the Ghostwood crop or a Haunted Chest of your own, this is the weekend to get them.
The 31 October finale added seven new crops, four new pets and the Swamp mutation, which multiplies a crop's value by twenty. The headline chase is the Mothman, a Divine-rarity pet that can move a mutation from one fruit to another — roughly every 36 minutes it flies to three fruits in your garden and transfers a mutation between them, with a small chance of copying it instead. It only comes from Haunted Chests, at a 0.5% drop rate, which makes it one of the hardest pets in the game to pull.
The chests hide more than the Mothman. Ghostwood, a Divine multi-harvest crop worth 155,000 Sheckles at base weight, is also a 0.5% chest drop, and the chest's seed table runs from the common Tombsprout at 35% up through the rarer Halloween crops. Across all three parts the event added 19 Halloween crops and 17 pets in total, so even players who skipped the first two weeks still have a full event's worth of collecting to do in the finale.
You do not need to spend anything to earn Haunted Chests. Every 30 minutes the Headless Horseman loses his head somewhere on the map, and carrying it back to him before it despawns starts a two-minute ride in which he drops blue wisps across the garden. Collect 50 wisps and you pick a reward — a Haunted Chest is one of the options, at an 18% chance. Other players can knock the head loose with a shovel, so the run is a small race as well as a collection loop.
The Horseman's reward table also hides two of the finale's best crops: Vampbloom, a Mythical crop worth 55,000 Sheckles at a 6% reward chance, and the Rotten Apple, a Divine crop worth 145,000 Sheckles and the rarest reward on the table at just 1%. Halloween Digging is the other free source of chests — up to 10 digs at a time, refilling one every five minutes, with each gravesite hiding four to seven treasures. Chests are also sold at the Halloween Market's Frightening Fauna stall for 2,200 Candy Corn.
Three things are worth doing before the event closes. First, run the Headless Horseman every half hour and dig whenever your digs refill — those are the free routes to Haunted Chests, and the 0.5% odds on Mothman and Ghostwood mean volume matters. Second, spend your Candy Corn before the market closes: leftover event currency does not carry into the next update. Third, plant your rarest Halloween crops now so the Swamp mutation, worth twenty times a crop's base value, has something to land on while the event is still live.
Grow a Garden's weekly updates usually land on Saturdays, so the Halloween event's end on 7 November lines up with the next regular update — expect the garden to change again the same weekend. We will update this story when the developers confirm what replaces Ghoul Garden, and the Grow a Garden codes page will be re-checked the moment the new update goes live.
